Christ the Lord is Risen Today

When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:54-55

Christ the Lord is ris’n today -by Reawaken Hymns

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Death in this world is so very hard.  We fear it for ourselves, and the loss of a loved one hurts so much.  The finality of it all, and the sense of loss never really leaves. But, for believers is Christ, death is not the final answer; it is not the end of our existence.  Our grief is for our great, but temporary, loss of our loved ones.  Our loss is their great and eternal gain, for I believe “in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”

Christ’s resurrection on that Sunday morning, was evidence of the final victory that we wait for at his return. And we celebrate it each and every Sunday. As Paul writes “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.” I Corinthians 15:17-19.  But we are not pitied and we are not lost, but the last enemy, death, has been destroyed and we can sing “Alleluia” in our victory through Christ.

“I will deliver this people from the power of the grave;
    I will redeem them from death.
Where, O death, are your plagues?
    Where, O grave, is your destruction? Hosea 13:14

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:25-27
