Jesus Paid it All

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  2 Corinthians 12:9

Jesus Paid it All by Reawaken Hymns

I hear the Savior say

Thy strength indeed is small

Child of weakness, watch and pray

Find in me thine all in all

Jesus paid it all

All to him I owe

Sin had left a crimson stain

He washed it white as snow

I think the “father of lies” tells the mother of all lies that Christ is not sufficient.  I think that lie finds traction in our hearts and minds in two different ways.  First the devil tries to convince us that we can’t be saved merely by grace and the death of Christ alone.  Satan tries to tell us that Christ’s death was not enough to save us and we need to earn our salvation somehow.  This of course cheapens grace and minimizes the saving work of Christ.

Secondly, the devil tries to convince us that we need more than Christ in our lives.  Christ is not enough, but, that we should be able to indulge in all the worldly pleasures as well.  In this the devil tries to diminish the all surpassing worth and vale of the riches in Jesus Christ and leads us to idol worship which puts greater worth on things other than God alone.

The truth is that Christ’s work was complete for our salvation, and our devotion to him should be complete as well. The Psalmist say it clearly, “Whom have I in heaven but you?  And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” Psalm 73:25

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.  Philippians 3:7-9
